KatadataOTO – Amid the acceleration of electrification, many Chinese brands are entering Indonesia and offering their products at competitive prices. Not only electric cars, but also hybrids.

A number of manufacturers are committed to investing and building factories. This way, the price of Chinese cars can be more competitive compared to their rivals, and they will have the opportunity to receive tax incentives from the government.

Recently, the government also attended a business meeting with Li Qiang, the Premier of China, organized by Kadin (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) in Jakarta on Saturday (24/05) night.

On that occasion, it was mentioned that many entrepreneurs were present, both those who have already invested and prospective investors for the future. Among them was one of the Chinese car manufacturers, namely Chery.

“Indonesia currently has a good relationship with China. So we want to (show) our dedication to the government,” said Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Automobile in West Jakarta, on Saturday.

He did not deny that the independent construction of a factory would also be a topic of discussion with the government.

Furthermore, Chery's decision to build an assembly facility is expected to attract other Chinese manufacturers to invest in Indonesia.

“We want to invest more, so that many Chinese companies can be (attracted to) invest here,” Yin emphasized.
