MG Sets Modest Sales Targets for 2026

KatadataOTO – The domestic automotive market is expected to face a number of challenges this year. Several manufacturers including MG are still reluctant to discuss details about sales targets in 2026.

MG is one of the Chinese car brands that has been operating in Indonesia for five years. However, MG's sales figures can be said to lag behind several rivals that have just debuted.

In the January-December 2025 period, MG reported retail sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) of 1.856 units.

MG's performance is just below Geely. The brand that debuted in 2025 sold 2.194 units in the same period.

“If we look at the market conditions now, they are very dynamic. Of course it would also be unwise to assess a specific number,” said Hary Kurniawan, Head of Marketing MG Motor Indonesia when met in South Jakarta not long ago.

MG representatives do not want to set a target for 2026. However, they assure they will introduce products that meet consumer needs, which will ultimately contribute to sales.

Further, Hary explained that out of about 1.800 units sold to consumers, the main contributing model is the electric car MG 4 EV.

“Last year, MG 4 EV played a role, therefore we see that the EV market potential in Indonesia is still good,” Hary continued.

For 2026, the first product to be introduced to maintain sales is the MG S5 EV.

Targeting family consumers, Hary hopes the product can meet the needs of consumers looking for environmentally friendly vehicles.

“What I can emphasize is that MG is serious in the Indonesian market. This year we will fully penetrate with our new products,” Hary asserted.
