KatadataOTO – Electric cars MG S5 EV will fill a new electrification line debuting at the Indonesia International Motor Show or IIMS 2026.

Just like other MG electric cars, the model will have a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) status, i.e., locally assembled.

The decision to introduce the MG S5 EV in early 2026 is called a milestone, given the rapid electrification development in the country today.

"Consumers are becoming more open to sustainable transportation, increasingly inclusive and relevant for everyday life," said Jason Huang, CEO of MG Motor Indonesia in Jakarta, Friday (01/30).

The MG S5 EV still follows the previous product line concept, blending innovation and the distinctive character of European cars as part of the brand's philosophy.

Indonesia is an important market for MG, a factor behind the arrival of the MG S5 EV in early 2026.

The model is claimed to be tailored for family mobility in urban areas with various unique features that consider the comfort of drivers and child passengers.

For example, the Motion Comfort System makes the car's acceleration feel smooth and unjarring, eliminating motion sickness while driving.

"MG will continue to bring innovation across various segments, developed based on customer needs," Jason emphasized.

Because it is still an introduction, MG has not disclosed many technical specifications or variants of the MG S5 EV that will be marketed.

However, MG assures that the model is optimized for family consumer comfort.

For information, the MG S5 EV first debuted in China in 2024, followed by the Bangkok Motor Show in April 2025.

The MG S5 EV there is touted as a replacement for the ZS EV. Speaking of price, at its debut the range was 719,900-899,900 baht (approximately IDR 384.4 million-IDR 480.5 million).

The top variant of the MG S5 EV uses a 64 kWh battery. On a single charge it is claimed to allow the car to travel up to 463 kilometers.

Meanwhile, when used on city roads and measured routes, the distance can be longer. With a full battery, the claimed range is about 643 kilometers.

It is not yet known whether MG will make specific design or technical adjustments for the S5 EV. The car is confirmed to appear at IIMS 2026, alongside its price announcement.
