KatadataOTO – Chery's investment plan in Indonesia continues to be a topic of discussion. Especially after they were rumored to be pouring in funds of up to IDR 5 trillion.
The brand from China has also provided the latest update on their investment plans in the country.
"We plan to start (building an independent factory) this year," said Zheng Shuo, President Director of Chery Group Indonesia in Jakarta, on Monday (03/11).
He added that Chery is currently finalizing various preparations to establish its own production facility.
They could not yet provide detailed information regarding the plan. Including the location and the funds that will be disbursed.
"Once it's finalized, I will provide an update. We will realize it in stages," continued Zheng Shuo.
On the other hand, a similar statement was also made by Wang Peng, COO of Chery Sales Indonesia. He stated that the construction of an independent factory is part of their commitment to contribute to the national automotive industry.
So that the manufacturer from China can have a positive impact on the domestic industry.
"This year we have decided to invest more. On October 10, 2025, we met with the Minister of Industry in Shanghai and discussed the investment plan," said Wang Peng during the inauguration of the Jaecoo dealership in North Jakarta.
However, Wang Peng stated that the plan to establish Chery's independent factory is still being finalized.
They are reluctant to rush in deciding on a plan. So that everything can proceed very well.
"The details are still under discussion and of course Chery will fulfill this investment commitment. We hope that next year we can see some of Chery's facilities established in Indonesia," Wang Peng affirmed.
As a reminder, Chery has already been assembling cars locally. They are partnering with Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM).
Several models assembled in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi, West Java include the Chery Tiggo Cross, Tiggo Cross CSH, Tiggo 8, and Tiggo 8 CSH.
In addition, there are also the Tiggo 9, J6, C6, and E5 which are made at the Handal factory in Bekasi.
It's not just Chery cars that are assembled at Handal. The Jaecoo product line also utilizes this facility.
Starting from the Jaecoo J5 EV, J7, to the J8 Ardis. Therefore, they already need an independent factory.
Moreover, in the near future, Chery will also market the Lepas electric car line in the country.
So the production volume of the Chinese manufacturer will be quite high. The presence of Chery's independent factory is considered to be very helpful.
