KatadataOTO – The Indonesian government is finalizing various policies. Especially in the existing fuel sector.
President Prabowo Subianto, along with his ministers, wants to implement a B50 biodiesel policy, or a 50 percent biofuel blend.
In addition, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) will also mandate a 10 percent ethanol blend (E10).
Of course, the various plans above have drawn many responses. Such as from GWM Indonesia.
"We certainly respect all policies, all rules, and standards implemented by the government," said Thio Adynata, Senior Public Relations Manager of GWM Indonesia in Bogor some time ago.
Even so, the Chinese manufacturer said it would coordinate with its principal.
So that the technology they carry in all GWM vehicles is compatible with the fuel available in the country.
However, Thio could not yet confirm whether the GWM Tank 300 Diesel and Haval Jolion HEV are capable of running on B50 and E10.
"We will support all forms of policy and coordinate to evaluate the compatibility of the technology we currently have," said Thio.
For your information, Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of ESDM, wants to immediately implement the B50 mandate in the country.
"Under the President's direction, it has been decided that in 2026, God willing, we will push for B50. Thus, we will no longer import diesel fuel into Indonesia," said Bahlil on the official ESDM Ministry website.
Bahlil explained that the decision was made after seeing the success of the ongoing biodiesel program, which has proven effective in reducing import dependency and significantly saving state foreign exchange reserves.
With the implementation of B50, the government projects a potential for very large additional foreign exchange savings, reaching 0.84 billion US dollars.
This target is believed to be achievable in just one year, or throughout 2026.
"This is a strategic decision and a form of the state's commitment to our energy sovereignty," said Bahlil.
Meanwhile, E10 or 10 percent ethanol is also targeted to start next year.
So, it remains to be seen how these two plans from the Ministry of ESDM will proceed. Whether it will benefit vehicle owners or not.
