Mitsubishi Destinator is set to become the latest model to fill the gap between the Pajero Sport and XForce.
KatadataOTO – Mitsubishi Destinator officially made its global debut in Indonesia on Thursday (17/07). This model is said to fill the empty gap between the Pajero Sport and the XForce.
SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) Destinator at a glance has a design identical to the XForce, especially the fascia and rear area.
However, while the XForce is a 5-seater, the Mitsubishi Destinator offers a larger passenger capacity of up to seven people. There is an additional third-row bench that can accommodate three people.
It's also interesting because amidst the push for electrification, Mitsubishi has chosen to use a 1,500 cc 4B40 engine equipped with turbo technology.
On paper, the Mitsubishi Destinator is claimed to produce 160 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm, delivered to the front two wheels.
Despite this, the Mitsubishi Destinator is claimed to remain fuel-efficient. This is because the engine was previously used in the Eclipse Cross but has since undergone further development.
“We want to offer consumers good performance and fuel efficiency, and we found this to be a good solution,” said Masahiro Ito, Chief Product Specialist at MMC (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation) in Jakarta some time ago.
Just like the XForce, the Mitsubishi Destinator is also equipped with five driving modes that can be adjusted to the user's needs. These include Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud, and Tarmac.
Targeting consumers who use their car for family mobility, the Destinator is still equipped with capable SUV-style driving features.
For example, AWC or All Wheel Control helps support vehicle stability when traversing various road conditions.
Combined with AYC, or Active Yaw Control, the system distributes torque to the left or right front wheels as needed.
