KatadataOTO – The launch of the Mitsubishi Destinator is just days away. The new car will hit the roads in Indonesia this week.
Various leaks about the four-wheeled vehicle have been widely circulated, including regarding its specifications.
“(It uses) a 1,500 cc turbo engine, it's definitely fuel-efficient and reliable,” said a Mitsubishi salesperson to KatadataOTO a few days ago.
If the Mitsubishi Destinator's mechanical heart is indeed as leaked by the salesperson, then it is highly likely to be the Eclipse Cross engine.
This is because the Eclipse Cross was once sold by Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) in the 2019 period.
However, the engine only lasted for three years. In March 2022, the three-diamond brand officially discontinued the model.
So it is very possible that the Mitsubishi Destinator will be equipped with the Eclipse Cross's mechanical heart. Moreover, manufacturers usually use existing engines.
This is a common practice in the automotive world. Considering that creating and developing a new engine would incur significant costs.
Additionally, it takes a considerable amount of time to get a new powertrain. Thus, it is highly likely that the Mitsubishi Destinator will rely on an existing powertrain to save on production and development costs.
On the other hand, referring to technical data, the Eclipse Cross engine is claimed to be able to produce a maximum power of 147 hp. Then, the peak torque reaches 250 Nm.
Regarding the transmission, the new Mitsubishi product uses an automatic CVT paired with a paddle shift.
The Mitsubishi Destinator is claimed to be equipped with five driving modes. Ranging from gravel, mud, normal, tarmac to wet.
And to provide more safety for the driver, the Mitsubishi Destinator is also embedded with the Diamond Sense feature.
The technology within it is similar to the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) embedded in previous models.
One of its main features is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). It is interesting because it can function at low speeds.
The Mitsubishi Destinator driver will be greatly assisted. Because the ACC relies on a Mono Camera, front and rear Radar Sensors, as well as Ultrasonic Parking Sensors.
Finally, the Mitsubishi Destinator will be marketed in five color options in Indonesia. Such as white, black, silver, grey, and lunar blue.
“(There is) a Premium Yamaha audio for the highest trim,” the salesperson continued.
Meanwhile, the price of the Mitsubishi Destinator starts from Rp 400 million for the lowest trim. Then the highest variant is priced at around Rp 500 million.
