KatadataOTO – Mitsubishi Pajero is one of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) lines whose production was discontinued in March 2021. However, it was recently revealed that its latest generation is being prepared for launch.

It should be noted that the Mitsubishi Pajero was introduced before the Pajero Sport as an off-road vehicle in 1982. The Pajero's presence is now continued by the Pajero Sport, including in the Indonesian market.

Signs of the new generation Mitsubishi Pajero's arrival began to be revealed by the Japanese manufacturer through a video post about its involvement in a rally event.

At the end of the video, the silhouette of an SUV unit is briefly visible, and its exterior design is not clearly seen.

However, at a glance, the SUV suspected to be the Mitsubishi Pajero has a design language similar to the Destinator, which is already marketed in Indonesia.

The headlight and LED bar design on this SUV appears identical to the front of the Mitsubishi Xforce and Destinator.

The Mitsubishi Pajero's posture is also similar to the SUV unit that was caught on camera being road-tested in Australia.

Mitsubishi is still keeping information about the new generation Pajero under wraps. But there is speculation that the Pajero will still be built on a body-on-frame or ladder frame platform.

Then, instead of using the name Pajero Sport, the model will retain the Pajero name to complete Mitsubishi's SUV lineup in the global market.

Looking at the test unit used in Australia, it seems Mitsubishi will apply a new design language like that on the Xforce and Destinator.

Unlike the Destinator, the Mitsubishi Pajero will enter a higher segment with capable specifications and larger dimensions.

The presence of the Mitsubishi Pajero in Indonesia will be an attractive option for consumers. Considering SUVs are still in high demand by consumers in the country, alongside MPVs.

Currently, Mitsubishi Indonesia already has several 7-seater SUV lineups such as the Pajero Sport, Destinator, and Xpander Cross in the low segment.

As for the 5-seater SUV option, the Mitsubishi Xforce is also presented, targeting the younger generation and female users.

As long as the new generation Pajero has not been officially released, the Pajero Sport remains the highest-tier Mitsubishi SUV in Indonesia.
