KatadataOTO – The arrest of Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela by the United States has had long-lasting consequences. The aggressive action by the U.S. government has had many impacts.
Especially for the automotive sector in the country nicknamed The Land of Grace. Because several car factories are starting to adjust their operations.
As done by Toyota, they have urged all expatriate staff not to work from the office.
“Toyota has instructed employees in Venezuela to temporarily work from home,” wrote an Automotiveworld report on Wednesday (07/01).
According to this online media outlet, the above decision is a result of the military attack initiated by Donald Trump, President of the United States on January 3, 2026.
Nevertheless, Toyota ensures that all expatriate staff and their families are safe, even though the situation in Venezuela is not yet stable.
Therefore, this Japanese brand has asked its expatriate staff to complete their duties by working from home (WFH).
It was further mentioned that the WFH decision for Toyota employees will not affect sales or production operations.
Although it should be noted that this has been affected by the economic conditions there and sanctions over the years.
It is undeniable that the Toyota factory in Cumana, Venezuela has faced various operational disruptions.
This has even caused production numbers to decline, becoming only a few hundred vehicles per year since 2020 due to a temporary shutdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the same report, Japanese exports to Venezuela reached 69.41 million US dollars or the equivalent of IDR 1.1 trillion in 2024.
The amount above represents a 16.1 percent growth from the previous period, with passenger vehicles, trucks, and automotive components accounting for the largest portion of the trade.
Meanwhile, according to the Japan External Trade Organization, imports from Venezuela, mainly cocoa beans and aluminum, increased by 13.9 percent in the same period.
On the other hand, other Japanese companies are also monitoring the development of the situation in Venezuela. This is in order to make the right decisions.
Many parties hope the turmoil in Venezuela can subside soon, so as not to bring more negative impacts.
The economic conditions there can also improve again, so that the operations of business owners there can recover and return to normal soon.
