Mitsubishi Responds to Toyota Veloz Hybrid's Presence in Indonesia

Mitsubishi Destinator fills a new vehicle segment for PT MMKSI in the domestic market, instead of the Xpander Hybrid.
KatadataOTO – Mitsubishi Destinator is introduced in Indonesia as a 7-seater family SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), filling the gap between the XForce and Pajero Sport.
Amid various challenges in the automotive industry, Mitsubishi is confident in introducing a new model instead of an update to one of their best-selling products, the Xpander.
Xpander Hybrid was first introduced in Thailand, while in Indonesia, news of its arrival is still unclear.
Mitsubishi revealed there were special considerations for launching the Destinator in Indonesia instead of the Xpander Hybrid.
“From our point of view, we want to expand our market reach,” said Atsushi Kurita, President Director of PT MMKSI (Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia) in Sentul, some time ago.
According to Kurita, to expand the market, Mitsubishi needs to launch a new, different product. In this case, it is the Destinator.
He further revealed that the Xpander has been sold to Indonesian consumers since 2017, meaning it has been on the road for nine years.
Over time, many consumers want a similar model with a newer look. The presence of the XForce received a positive response, but Mitsubishi customers are said to be interested in a three-row car.
“If we have a premium 7-seater, it becomes like an upgrade from the Xpander. It can answer the needs of current Xpander users,” said Kurita.
Kurita emphasized that the Mitsubishi Destinator had undergone a suitability study in Indonesia before being launched.
He is confident the Mitsubishi Destinator can be the answer to the needs of domestic customers and will later be sold at an appropriate price point.
“We want these two products (Xpander and Destinator) to be the strong backbone of Mitsubishi's (sales) in Indonesia,” said Kurita.
For your information, the price of the Mitsubishi Destinator will be announced at the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2025 event.
According to several salespeople, the price range for the Mitsubishi Destinator is from the Rp 400 million range to above Rp 500 million.
It is certain that the price will be above the Xpander and XForce. However, it will not exceed the manufacturer's flagship SUV, the Pajero Sport.
