The motorcycle collection of a former athlete and FBI fugitive has garnered attention, featuring many historic bikes from Moto2 to MotoGP.
KatadataOTO – The Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI Los Angeles recently seized dozens of racing motorcycle collection valued at around 40 million USD (approximately IDR 669 billion) in Mexico.
The collection of racing motorcycles is said to belong to Ryan James Wedding, a former Olympic athlete who is now an FBI fugitive for drug trafficking cases.
“This month, Mexican authorities executed a number of search warrants and secured many motorcycles valued at 40 million USD, believed to belong to one of the FBI's top ten most wanted fugitives, Ryan James Wedding,” wrote the official FBI Los Angeles account, quoted Wednesday (31/12).
Interestingly, the collection in question is not just ordinary racing motorcycles. It has attracted the attention of many parties because many units are believed to belong to Valentino Rossi, Andrea Iannone, Jorge Lorenzo, and even Loris Capirossi.
There was even a racing motorcycle unit that was once used by Marc Marquez when he competed in the Moto2 class.
In a photo uploaded by the FBI Los Angeles, one of the units is suspected to be an Aprilia RS 125, formerly used by Rossi during his racing debut.
It is not yet clear where Ryan James Wedding obtained the racing motorcycles from the prestigious event.
It is a unique situation because many prototypes and racing motorcycles with a strong history behind them filled Ryan James Wedding's garage in Mexico.
In total, it is known that about 62 racing motorcycle units were secured by the authorities. Many parties have highlighted that the estimated value of 40 million USD is too low when looking at the photos from the FBI Los Angeles.
Considering that motorcycle units related to the MotoGP racing event are usually obtained through auctions or by purchasing replicas. The price per unit is certainly very high.
For example, in 2024, a charity auction initiated by MotoGP collected donations of around 279 thousand USD (approximately IDR 4.43 billion) for severe flood relief in Valencia.
The Moto3 world champion motorcycle used by Maverick Vinales in 2013 was sold for around IDR 800 million.
Meanwhile, a helmet belonging to Valentino Rossi, complete with his signature, was sold for around IDR 150 million.
