Riders are advised to be careful. Especially for those who use motorcycles for their daily activities.

Because similar incidents could potentially happen again in the future. This could disrupt your activities.

Now, if the water rises again, two-wheeled vehicle owners are urged not to force their way through the road.

“If you ride through a flood, the motorcycle will usually stall. It's likely that water has entered the engine, and it must be handled immediately,” said Mulyono, Head of the AHASS Wahana Gunung Sahari workshop, when met by KatadataOTO some time ago.

He further explained that if water enters the combustion chamber, it can cause a water hammer in the motorcycle's engine.

Causing several components in the mechanical heart to be damaged. It must then be repaired at a workshop immediately.

“It's possible the connecting rod could bend and the piston could get scratched, causing it to get stuck in the engine block. So, if possible, don't ride through floods,” he continued.

On the other hand, it's not just the engine that gets damaged from forcing through a flood; the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) section is also affected.

Water can enter through a small hole in the CVT case of an automatic motorcycle. This causes rust on all parts.

“Parts like the pulley, roller housing, and the front fan all get rusty. If you force it to run, it can slip,” Mulyono asserted.

He also advised two-wheeled vehicle owners not to ride through floods like the one in Jakarta yesterday.

If you must force it, make sure the water level does not exceed and stays below your motorcycle's CVT.

Handling a Motorcycle After Riding Through a Flood

On the other hand, if you have been forced to ride through a flood, go to the nearest workshop immediately. Perform a vehicle engine oil change.

“Don't forget to change the gear oil as well. Then, have the CVT serviced for inspection and cleaning,” he said.

This way, your two-wheeled vehicle will remain in prime condition after passing through a flood or high puddles.
