KatadataOTO – Tens of thousands of people are expected to travel for the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming. One of the transportation modes of choice is the motorcycle.

This is because two-wheeled vehicles are considered quite economical. Thus, people prefer motorcycles over other forms of transportation.

The Traffic Directorate (Dirlantas) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police has also urged travelers to choose other modes of transport to return to their hometowns.

"I hope that motorcycles will be the very last alternative, I truly implore you," said Police Grand Commissioner Latif Usman, Head of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday (12/03).

Latif reasoned that traveling by motorcycle is very prone to accidents, especially when the rider experiences fatigue.

Therefore, it poses a high risk of causing traffic accidents, considering that such incidents have already claimed many victims.

"Because 70 percent of traffic accident victims are from motorcycles, and fatalities are also from motorcycles," Latif continued.

Therefore, he advises the public to use other transportation or participate in the free homecoming program.

Moreover, various ministries and SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) are preparing thousands of slots for the free homecoming program for Eid al-Fitr 2025.

"The public transportation in Jakarta provided by the Department of Transportation is more than sufficient for the homecoming journey," Latif stated.

For your information, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) estimates that there will be 12.74 million people relying on motorcycles for their homecoming journey.

Several Things to Pay Attention To

On the other hand, if people still insist on traveling by motorcycle, Latif said there are several things that must be considered.

For instance, do not travel at night, because the rider's concentration will decrease.

Then, there are some unexpected community activities that could endanger you during the journey to your hometown.

Then, along the West Bekasi to Karawang route, there are several U-turns, so riders must be wary of them.

"So be very cautious so that travelers are more careful," Latif Usman emphasized.

Furthermore, on the route from West Bekasi to East Bekasi entering Tambun, you must be aware of the road conditions.

"The road is quite bumpy, and there are several potholes that we will coordinate with stakeholders to repair immediately," Latif concluded.

Travelers using motorcycles are also asked to pay attention to their physical condition and their vehicle's condition before returning to their hometowns.
