KatadataOTO – The rainy season has not yet passed in Indonesia. In fact, today (09/01), several areas in Jakarta, Bekasi, and Tangerang have been experiencing rain since last night.

This means motorcycle owners should not be negligent in performing maintenance. Because if it is not done, it has the potential to cause damage.

Especially if your vehicle is forced through floods. It can cause rust on several components.

Therefore, you must regularly perform servicing. If you are confused, KatadataOTO has summarized which components must be checked frequently.

5 Components Prone to Damage During the Rain

1. Bearing

The bearing is the first component on a motorcycle whose condition must be checked, whether it is still good or needs to be replaced.

“During the rainy season, most bearings (get damaged) from hitting potholes. Then the seal tears, so water gets in easily,” said Mulyono, Head of the AHASS Wahana Gunung Sahari Workshop when met by KatadataOTO.

Mulyono advises motorcycle owners to replace this part if it is damaged. It can be dangerous if left as is.

2. Suspension

The suspension is no less important to check. Dirt that sticks to the road during the rainy season can cause the shock absorber shaft to rust and get scratched.

Owners are also asked to wash their vehicles regularly. Especially after riding on damaged roads in the rain.

“If it's often splashed by rainwater and puddles, it will leave a mark, so it should be cleaned immediately. If not, it will rust and possibly leak,” Mulyono continued.

Now, if this condition occurs, you have no choice but to replace the seal and the shock absorber shaft at the same time. This is important to do so that leaks do not occur again in the future.
