BYD M6 to Become Official Vehicle of Surabaya City Government

KatadataOTO – The Surabaya city government is working to meet the need for official vehicles in the form of electric cars. The number is quite large, reaching 42 units.

The procurement, which uses a rental system, is targeted to be completed next week. The electric cars are planned to be used by heads of departments in Surabaya.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, the provider has not been able to meet the demand. Only 13 EV units are currently available.

"13 of the 42 units have arrived, including the mayor's car," said Ali Murtadlo, Head of the Goods/Services Procurement and Development Administration Division of the Surabaya City Government, as reported by Antara (09/01).

He admitted that they are still waiting for the remaining units to be delivered as the provider has until next week. But if they cannot fulfill the order, his party is ready to find a new partner.

“If the number of vehicles is not completed by this week, the provider will be replaced with another partner,” he then added.

Ali also revealed that the electric car planned for use as an official vehicle is the BYD M6. The rental cost per unit is recorded at Rp 13 million per month. 

It should be noted that the BYD M6 has become one of the best-selling cars in Indonesia. In November 2024, the model achieved wholesale sales of 1,770 units.

That number is enough to place it in the ninth position of best-selling models in Indonesia.

For your information, the BYD M6 comes in several variants: Standard, Superior, and Superior Captain. The highest variant has a 6-seater configuration and is equipped with Captain Seats.

The M6 Standard uses a 55.4 kWh battery, offering a range of 420 km on a single charge. However, for more peace of mind while driving, you can choose the Superior variant as it uses a 71.8 kWh capacity battery and can be driven up to 530 km.
