KatadataOTO – Traffic congestion in Jakarta is getting worse. Especially during rush hours when people are commuting to and from work.
In fact, at several points, vehicle buildup is quite severe. It often causes long traffic jams.
Based on this, the West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) will widen a number of roads in their area.
This is being done as an effort to overcome the frequent traffic congestion. It is hoped that this will improve traffic flow.
“Four roads will be widened this year because of frequent traffic jams,” said Uus Kuswanto, Mayor of West Jakarta, as quoted by Antara on Friday (11/04).
According to Uus, the four roads to be widened are Jalan Kembang Kerep in Meruya Utara, Jalan Arjuna Utara and Jalan Arjuna Selatan in Kebon Jeruk, and Jalan Joglo on Joglo Raya.
Uus further stated that vehicle buildup at these four locations often extends during rush hours.
It even sometimes causes disputes among vehicle users. For example, on Jalan Raya Joglo.
Based on the facts above, the section of Jalan Joglo Raya, especially the one heading towards the Joglo sub-district, needs to be widened in the near future.
“From the traffic light, past Pos Pengumben, to the Joglo traffic light, the road is already wide. But heading towards the Joglo sub-district, the width is only about four meters, so it needs to be widened,” Uus continued.
On the other hand, widening work has already been carried out on Jalan Kembang Kerep in Meruya Utara, as well as Jalan Arjuna Utara and Arjuna Selatan in Kebon Jeruk.
However, the work is still ongoing. Therefore, they will focus on completing it in a short time.
“The main focus is on the issue of widening Jalan Kembang Kerep, and also Jalan Arjuna Utara and Selatan, which are still not finished,” the West Jakarta Mayor emphasized.
Meanwhile, Uus explained that alleviating traffic congestion in their area is also a main proposal in the West Jakarta City-level Development Planning Deliberation (Musrenbang).
Besides the issue of traffic congestion, the West Jakarta City Government is also focusing on disaster management. For example, floods and the normalization of waterways.
“For handling the traffic congestion problem in West Jakarta, we are focusing on those four roads first. Specifically regarding the construction and widening of the roads,” Uus concluded.
