The IICCS Forum will once again involve various parties to support decarbonization in the industrial sector in October 2025.
KatadataOTO – The government's commitment to implementing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia continues to be echoed.
This step is not limited to the use of electric and hybrid cars. But it also pays attention to more environmentally friendly production processes, not least in the automotive sector.
Supporting this commitment, the IICCS (International and Indonesia Carbon Capture Storage) Forum will be held again in October 2025. This will be the third time the forum is held.
“This initiative encourages the energy transition in reducing carbon emissions. In the future, it will bring new income for Indonesia,” said Belladonna Troxylon Maulianda, Executive Director of ICCSC in Central Jakarta, Monday (21/04).
It should be noted, CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is a global warming mitigation technology that works by reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
It starts with the separation and capture from the source of exhaust gas emissions, which are then delivered to safe storage.
“CCS is an energy transition solution, especially for industries that are difficult to decarbonize or hard-to-abate industries,” she continued.
One of the energy companies in Indonesia, ExxonMobil, has begun to commit to implementing CCS development in the country.
The IICCS Forum is expected to become a platform for sharing knowledge and fostering strategic cooperation among various related parties in helping to reduce carbon gas emissions through CCS.
“Basically, we invite all stakeholders, including the government, industry players, and the public, to actively participate in this forum,” said Evan Lukas, Director of Indonesia Advocacy & Policy Development, ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solution & Chairman of the IICCS Forum 2025 on the same occasion.
It was further explained that CCS investment in Indonesia will disburse funds of around 38 million USD from various companies, including ExxonMobil.
There are still other collaboration opportunities open with various companies that will be promoted at the upcoming IICCS 2025 event in October.
Kicking off 2025, a memorandum of understanding or MoU was signed between the Coordinating Ministry for Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and ExxonMobil Chemical International Major Growth Ventures.
“One of the projects in this MoU is Carbon Capture and Storage and it is also related to the petrochemicals, plastic, and synthetic fiber industries,” said Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, quoted from his official statement some time ago.
The Coordinating Minister also revealed that the project supports the downstreaming policy of President Prabowo Subianto and creates new jobs during its construction period.
The development of CCS is also said to be able to help reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent.
