KatadataOTO – Soon, people in Jakarta will be traveling for the 2025 Eid homecoming. Various modes of transportation will be relied upon.
One of them is by using motorcycles. Therefore, the Metro Jaya Regional Police are making various preparations.
This includes maximizing the implementation of electronic ticketing or ETLE along the routes used by people to return to their hometowns.
"We will implement electronic ticketing. So, at the border points, we will place Mobile ETLE," said AKBP Argo Wiyono, Deputy Traffic Director of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, to Antara on Wednesday (19/03).
Argo explained that this was intentionally done by the police. The goal is to reduce the number of traffic violations.
For example, carrying more than two people on a motorcycle. Also, people returning to their hometowns with excessive luggage.
Therefore, the Metro Jaya Regional Police will take firm action against two-wheeled vehicle users who commit violations during the 2025 Eid homecoming period.
"So, we feel that the education campaign will be sufficient by the time the travelers depart. We do not need to take actions that would clash with the public," Argo affirmed.
He also admitted that the Metro Jaya Regional Police plans to prepare five to 10 Mobile ETLE units to facilitate this plan.
All of these electronic ticketing cameras will be placed along the roads leading out of Jakarta.
For instance, the Kalimalang route, Depok, TB (Tanjung Barat) Simatupang, up to the direction of Tangerang in Kalideres, West Jakarta.
For your information, the Traffic Directorate (Dirlantas) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police previously urged travelers to choose other modes of transport to return to their hometowns.
"I hope that motorcycles will be the very last alternative, I truly implore you," said Police Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, Traffic Director of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, on a separate occasion.
Latif reasoned that traveling by motorcycle for the homecoming is very prone to accidents. Especially when the rider experiences fatigue.
It is very risky and can cause traffic accidents. Considering that such incidents have already claimed many victims.
"Because 70 percent of traffic accident victims are from motorcycles, and fatalities are also from motorcycles," Latif continued.
Therefore, he advises the public to use other transportation or participate in free homecoming programs.
Moreover, various ministries and SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) are preparing thousands of free homecoming slots for Eid 2025.
"The public transportation in Jakarta provided by the Department of Transportation is more than sufficient for the homecoming trip," Latif concluded.
