The locally assembled BAIC BJ40 Plus is claimed to require an investment of Rp 20 billion for infrastructure.
KatadataOTO – PT JIO (JHL International Otomotif) as the official distributor of the BAIC brand has officially locally assembled the BJ40 Plus. This project is a collaboration with PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor) as the owner of the factory in Purwakarta, West Java.
To start the collaboration, BAIC Indonesia claims to have invested Rp 20 billion. The funds are allocated for the procurement of special equipment and supporting infrastructure.
“The investment from JIO itself reaches Rp 15 to Rp 20 billion. That does not include the contribution from HIM,” said Dhani Yahya, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of JIO in Purwakarta on the sidelines of the launch of the locally assembled BAIC BJ40 Plus (02/06).
With its status as a locally assembled car, the BAIC BJ40 Plus has undergone a price correction. The previous price of the BAIC BJ40 Plus was Rp 790 million.
After being officially assembled locally, the price of the BAIC BJ40 Plus is now Rp 698 million on the road Jakarta. There is a difference of Rp 92 million, which is an advantage for potential customers.
The nominal reduction above is due to differences in a car's import tax. It was explained that there are several reductions thanks to local assembly.
“The Import Duty, which is usually 50 percent, becomes around 10 percent. There is also a luxury tax component and several other reductions,” said Dhani.
Despite the reduction in the selling price, he ensures there is no decrease in product quality. Instead, consumers will get additional features on the vehicle.
One of them is the Differential Lock, which can enhance the car's ability to explore various challenging terrains.
The Purwakarta-assembled BAIC BJ40 Plus also adds an automatic seat adjustment feature for the two front seats. This provides more convenience for users.
The entertainment sector also gets an upgrade, namely the latest connectivity system. As a result, it can increase comfort on every journey.
Dhani claims that the BAIC BJ40 Plus targets both male and female consumers. Especially for fans of distinctive and charismatic vehicles.
This boxy-style SUV is the backbone of BAIC's sales in the country. Referring to data from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries), BAIC's retail sales for the January – April 2025 period were 153 units.
