The BAIC BJ40 Plus, assembled in Purwakarta, West Java, has officially launched with a price reduction of tens of millions of rupiah.
KatadataOTO – BAIC Indonesia has finally officially launched the locally assembled BJ40 Plus. The assembly process is entrusted to PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor) in Purwakarta, West Java.
The collaboration between the two parties adds more choices of domestically assembled Chinese cars for the Indonesian public. The PT HIM facility itself is noted to have become a production base for several Chinese brands, including Chery, Jaecoo, Aletra, and now BAIC.
“The assembly of the BJ40 Plus is a new milestone for BAIC in Indonesia. This proves our seriousness in the national automotive market,” said Dhany Yahya, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia in Purwakarta (02/06).
It's interesting because by being assembled in the country, the product's price becomes cheaper. There is at least a decrease of tens of millions of rupiah compared to the CBU (Completely Built Up) version.
The previous price of the BAIC BJ40 Plus was around Rp 790 million. After its official launch from the Purwakarta factory, the price of their Boxy SUV is now Rp 698 million on the road in Jakarta.
“This launch is expected to mark a new, solid chapter for the BAIC brand in Indonesia,” Dhany later explained.
The BAIC BJ40 Plus is the flagship model of PT JHL International Otomotif (JIO) in the country. As a rugged-looking SUV, several units of this model are used by government agencies.
For your information, 22 units of the BJ40 Plus have been officially handed over to the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) Army. The model will be used as operational vehicles for Kopassus and Kostrad.
The BAIC BJ40 Plus uses a 2,000 cc four-cylinder turbo engine. The output from the vehicle's powertrain is claimed to reach 221 hp and a peak torque of 380 Nm.
This mechanical heart is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF. Born as a tough SUV model, the vehicle's drivetrain is equipped with 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) capability through electronic shifting.
Equipped with these specifications, it is hoped that the BJ40 Plus will be able to tackle various challenging terrains. It will especially appeal to off-road enthusiasts.
Moreover, the BAIC BJ40 Plus gets an injection of new features, including a Differential Lock. As a result, this enhances the car's ability to conquer difficult terrain.
The automatic seat adjustment on the two first-row seats provides driving pleasure.
