The names BYD King and King L are registered in Indonesia, referring to PHEV technology sedans sold at competitive prices.
KatadataOTO – BYD was observed registering a new model brand again on the Intellectual Property Database (PDKI) page.
Based on KatadataOTO's search on Thursday (04/12), two brands were registered, namely BYD King and BYD King L.
Globally, the BYD King is a sedan with Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) technology.
The BYD King is sold in several countries, including Brazil and Mexico. This model at a glance looks like the Seal electric car, but with a different character, especially in the grille section.
Its appearance is more like a conventional engine car. It is also different from the BYD Seal, which has a sporty concept.
The BYD King is also known as the Destroyer 05, part of the Warship series which has not yet been marketed in Indonesia.
Currently, BYD's vehicle lineup in the country includes the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7, and M6. All of them come from the Ocean and Dynasty series.
The BYD King is said to target younger generation consumers who want to use the electrification lineup. The model debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2021.
In terms of powertrain, the BYD King is equipped with BYD's DM-i PHEV technology, combined with a 1,500 cc engine.
This configuration is claimed to produce 180 hp to 197 hp. The lowest type offers a pure electric range of 55 km, while the top variant offers 120 km.
When it was first launched, the BYD King was sold in the price range of 101,800 yuan to 148,800 yuan. This is equivalent to Rp 240 million - Rp 350.9 million when converted to the rupiah exchange rate.
If it comes to Indonesia, not many manufacturers are competing in the hybrid sedan segment with prices below Rp 500 million.
Then overall, the sedan market is also considered still quite small and not as massive as the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) or Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) markets.
For example, the Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport HEV, Camry HEV, and then there are the Honda Civic RS e:HEV and Accord e:HEV. All are offered with a price tag starting from Rp 600 million and up.
