KatadataOTO – Step by step, clarity is finally emerging on when the BYD Subang factory will truly begin operations. So, it won't be long before the Indonesian market will truly get locally assembled BYD cars.

Liu Xeuliang, General Manager of the Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division at BYD Auto, confirmed that after all administrative requirements are completed at the end of 2025, the 110-hectare factory will start production early next year.

"I thank the Indonesian government for completing the permits in 2025. So we are confident we will start operations in the first quarter of 2026," said Liu in Zhengzhou, China, some time ago.

The construction stages of the BYD factory itself are already in their final phases. And Liu firmly stated that his company does not want to delay; production must start immediately.

"BYD has actually scheduled and is trying to accelerate all processes. And we are optimistic about seeing the first model that will be produced," said Liu.

What is also interesting to note is that at the beginning of its operations, the BYD factory is said to be hitting the ground running. The strategy is rather ambitious as it will immediately start production for several models at once.

"It certainly won't be just one model that we produce, because there will be several. And initially, the production will focus on the Indonesian market," explained Liu.

Liu also confirmed that the production target for the BYD Subang factory is 150,000 units per year. The number can be dynamically increased according to market demand.

"The factory's capacity can be increased according to market demand," he continued.

With this direct update from a BYD executive in China, it seems the automotive competition in Indonesia is about to get more exciting. The dominance of locally made Japanese cars will certainly face a tough opponent, which is a global automotive giant from China.
