KatadataOTO – 2025 has ended and brought positive news for BYD, the car manufacturer from China. This is because they successfully achieved a new sales record.
Reported by CarNewsChina, BYD's sales reached 4,550,036 units. This figure is 7.1 percent higher than last year's achievement, which was at the level of 4,250,370 units.
Despite the growth, there is a noticeable slowdown in demand, especially when compared to the growth in 2021 and 2022, which had reached over 200 percent.
Cars with Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) technology are still the company's backbone. Throughout 2025, BYD sold at least 2,288,709 PHEV units.
However, this number actually represents a 7.9 percent decrease compared to the achievement in 2024.
Nevertheless, BYD's electric car sales actually grew significantly. Throughout 2025, they sold 2,254,714 pure electric vehicle units, an increase of 27.9 percent.
Thanks to this achievement, BYD's electric car sales accounted for 49.6 percent of the company's total sales in 2025, while PHEVs contributed 50.4 percent. In contrast, in 2024, EVs only contributed 41.5 percent to the company's total sales.
As an additional note, BYD's overseas sales also experienced significant growth. For the first time, they managed to exceed 1 million units in sales outside of China.
At least 1,046,083 vehicle units were successfully sold, an increase of 150.7 percent compared to 2024. This surge became the key to BYD's growth amidst demand pressure in the domestic market.
It should be noted that in December 2025, BYD's sales experienced a fairly deep correction. The total cars sold in that month were only 414,784 units, down 18.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, when compared to November 2025, sales also decreased by 12.7 percent.
Of this total, electric car sales reached 190,712 units worldwide. This figure is down 8.2 percent compared to December 2024.
Meanwhile, PHEV sales were recorded at 224,072 units, a correction of 25.7 percent compared to December 2024. This downward trend for PHEVs has been ongoing for nine consecutive months since April 2025.
Nevertheless, the global market performance remains strong with overseas sales of 133,172 units, a jump of 133 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
When combined with commercial vehicles and buses, BYD's total sales in December 2025 reached 420,398 units.
