adataOTO - The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) finally announced the car sales target. They are optimistic they can sell at least 850.000 units throughout 2026.

This figure is higher than the national automotive market achievement in 2025, which was only 803.687 (wholesales). Nevertheless, the number is considered still realistic to achieve.

"We have agreed this year to set a target of 850 thousand units," said Kukuh Kumara, Secretary General of Gaikindo reported by Antara (31/01).

However, he admits that the target could still change depending on the conditions of the Indonesian automotive market.

"If there are developments or new policies, we might review it again," he added later.

Kukuh also revealed that the Indonesian market has a chance to at least hold steady compared to last year. This is because the Eid al-Fitr holiday will come early in the year.

Generally, the national automotive market will increase during this period, which can be leveraged by automotive industry players.

However, that moment also poses its own challenges. One of them is the reduction of working days for vehicle production.

The organization of automotive exhibitions and the presence of new vehicle brands and models are expected to boost sales after the Eid holiday.

"The hope is that after that we should be a bit aggressive. Because the period is quite long from March until the end of the year," said Kukuh Kumara.

It should be noted that throughout 2025, car wholesales in Indonesia only reached 803.687 units. This figure decreased compared to the previous year, which was 889.680 units.

Meanwhile, retail sales also experienced a correction. Throughout 2025 there were only 833.692 units shipped from factories to customers, down from the previous year's 889.680 unit unit.

In 2026, several new brands will appear in Indonesia. This is expected to give consumers more choices and increase vehicle sales.
