KatadataOTO – BYD has once again launched their newest MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle), the Xia, with prices starting from 249,800 yuan or equivalent to Rp 553.7 million.

This time, BYD's newest MPV is offered exclusively in a PHEV or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle option. This is different from the Denza D9, which is available in a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) variant.

BYD Xia has dimensions of 5,145 mm x 1,970 mm x 1,805 mm, not much different from competitors in the same class like the Toyota Alphard HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) at L x W x H 5,010 mm x 1,850 mm x 1,945 mm.

Meanwhile, its appearance at a glance can be said to be quite similar to the Denza D9, which has been introduced in Indonesia. The main difference between the two lies in the powertrain.

The PHEV version of the BYD Xia uses a 1,500 cc capacity engine, capable of producing 154 hp and a peak torque of 225 Nm. It is also equipped with an electric motor that provides additional power.

The base variant is equipped with a 20.39 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Blade battery, which is claimed to support an additional travel distance of 100 km.

The higher-tier model uses a larger 36.6 kWh battery. The result is an additional range of 180 km without gasoline assistance.

So overall, the BYD Xia is claimed to be able to travel up to 1,060 km with a full tank of gasoline and the battery charged to 100 percent.

Another differentiator from the Denza D9 is the additional safety sensors. The BYD Xia does not have an additional lidar, but it has the DiPilot 100 ADAS system.

For your information, this is the third MPV from BYD after the M6 and D9. However, the Denza is launched under the Denza sub-brand, targeting premium consumers.

The BYD Xia is believed to be a response to the success of the Denza D9 in the global market, filling the class between the BYD M6 and the Denza D9 with a competitive price.

It is not impossible for BYD to introduce the BYD Xia, which has a more affordable price, even though PHEVs are still relatively rare in Indonesia.

However, following the government's provision of incentives for hybrid cars, a number of manufacturers intend to bring PHEVs into the country, such as Chery and Jaecoo.

If assembled locally, it would meet one of the requirements to receive hybrid car incentives. The BYD Xia would become the newest rival to the Toyota Alphard and has the potential to be offered competitively.
