KatadataOTO – The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries or Gaikindo has officially announced that new car sales in 2025 have surpassed the target of 780 thousand units.

Retail sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) reached 833,692 units. Meanwhile, wholesales, or shipments from factories to dealers, stood at 803,687 units.

This achievement was positive thanks to a rapid increase towards the end of the year. In December 2025, retail car sales reached 93,833 units.

There was an increase of 18.3 percent or 14,485 units compared to sales in November 2025, which were 79,348 units.

Retail sales in December 2025 were also higher than in December 2024, which only managed to reach 76,473 units.

Gaikindo believes several factors triggered the sales surge towards the end of the year, such as year-end discount programs. This proved effective in boosting new car sales in Indonesia.

“There are several incentives that ended in December,” said Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo, to KatadataOTO on Friday (09/01).

The uncertainty regarding automotive incentives in 2026 actually encouraged consumers to make purchases before the end of the year.

It should be noted that in 2025, the incentive that ended was the subsidy for imported electric cars, specifically for vehicles with Completely Built Up (CBU) status.

Brands receiving the imported electric car incentive are required to locally assemble cars corresponding to the number of CBU units sold. If not, there is a chance the price of each model will increase.
