KatadataOTO – PT CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) conducted a battery safety test held at PIK (Pantai Indah Kapuk) 2 on Tuesday (17/05).

During the activity, the battery from the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH (Chery Super Hybrid) was separated from the car, then placed inside an aquarium filled with seawater.

The test was intended to prove the durability and safety of the battery on the Tiggo 8 CSH.

Considering there are still many concerns about the safety of the power storage unit, especially if it is exposed to or submerged in water.

“An activity that I think is not only thick with technical nuances, but something strategic for the future of electric vehicles in Indonesia,” said Heri Prabowo, Head of the Roadworthiness Testing and Motor Vehicle Certification Center of the Ministry of Transportation at PIK 2, Tuesday.

This is also seen as supporting the government's commitment to accelerating the energy transition and reducing carbon emissions.

The adoption of new technologies like electric vehicles, according to Heri, needs to be accompanied by certainty in terms of technical safety and roadworthiness.

“I want to express my highest appreciation to Chery Sales Indonesia for its commitment and consistency in following the entire type-testing process carried out by the Ministry of Transportation,” he emphasized.

A Chery representative revealed that the test was a big challenge for them.

This kind of testing is being done for the first time in Indonesia, and will soon be practiced in other countries in the future.

“We strongly believe that we must provide the best safety for everyone. That is why we launched this challenge,” said Zeng Shuo, Country Director of PT CSI on the same occasion.
