KatadataOTO – Import duty revenue in the first quarter of 2025 has decreased. This is due to various factors, including the incentives provided by the government for electric vehicles.

The government has indeed been implementing various measures to accelerate the development of electric vehicles in the country. One of these is providing import duty incentives, reducing the tariff to Rp 0.

"Based on government policy, electric cars receive import duty incentives, so the tariff is Rp 0 even if the volume is large," said Askolani, Director General of Customs and Excise, as reported by Antara (08/05).

Additionally, rice import activities, which were frequent in 2024, have been halted this year, resulting in no revenue. This situation is also considered to have an impact on the decline in import duty revenue in 2025.

It should be noted that import duty revenue in the first quarter of 2025 was only Rp 11.3 trillion. This amount is 5.8 percent lower than the same period last year, which reached 12 trillion.

Nevertheless, it is undeniable that the strategy of providing a Rp 0 import duty tariff for electric vehicles has successfully attracted many manufacturers to Indonesia. This is evident from the number of manufacturers entering the country, with several already committed to building factories in Indonesia.

Thanks to this, the number of electric vehicles available for the public to choose from has become more diverse, and each model has its own advantages.

The results are quite interesting, as the presence of electric cars has continued to grow year after year. Based on Gaikindo data, the number of EV sales from factory to dealer has reached 44,557 units.

This number increased drastically compared to 2024, which was only 17,058 units. This number is expected to continue to increase in the future.

This is because the president has issued a new presidential regulation that is believed to make it easier for investors to sell electric vehicles to government agencies, both central and regional. Thus, it is hoped that companies will find it easier to conduct their business in the country.
