Daihatsu Rocky Gets Hybrid, What About Toyota Raize's Fate?

KatadataOTO – The Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky duo are present in Indonesia as compact Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). But recently, the Rocky has been offered domestically with hybrid technology.

The Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid becomes the first Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) from PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) in Indonesia.

The model is not yet locally assembled. Instead, it is still fully imported from its country of origin, Japan.

Meanwhile, PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) has not given any signal regarding the arrival of the Raize Hybrid to accompany the Rocky.

“I cannot declare anything about product branding strategy,” said Jap Ernando Demily, Marketing Director of PT TAM in Tangerang some time ago.

According to him, Toyota will implement a different strategy. He even emphasized that their next hybrid car will reach more consumers.

He explained that Toyota's current hybrid car lineup includes the Kijang Innova Zenix family car, then the Alphard, Vellfire, and Yaris Cross.

The next product is touted to have an increasingly competitive price. It is highly likely to be the Veloz Hybrid.

“We will soon have a hybrid car that reaches a wider audience. Just wait for the right time,” Ernando said briefly.

For your information, the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid debuted at GIIAS 2025 and received a positive response from consumers.

Out of a total of 580 vehicle order letters (SPK), 147 of them were for the Rocky Hybrid.

Meanwhile, Toyota chose to launch the locally assembled bZ4X electric car and the HEV Corolla Altis GR Sport.

The Urban Cruiser electric vehicle, said to be the twin of the Suzuki eVitara, was also present. However, it was only an introduction, as orders have not yet been opened.

Speaking of the Toyota Raize, this model, like the Rocky, has been equipped with hybrid technology in the Japanese market.

The Raize is said to use e-Smart Hybrid, a hybrid system used by the manufacturer Nissan.

Similar to the Rocky Hybrid, the Toyota Raize Hybrid does not receive significant changes to its exterior. 

However, to differentiate it, the T emblem on the front of the car has been given a blue accent.
