Sales Decline in Indonesia Draws Attention from Toyota Japan

Japanese brands still dominate the list of favorite used cars among Indonesian consumers throughout 2025.
KatadataOTO – Throughout 2025, the used car market is not losing customers. Amid weakening purchasing power and an economy that has yet to stabilize, used cars have become the most efficient option for many people.
Moreover, used car trading platforms are now increasingly diverse. Instead of just visiting a showroom, customers can also view unit references and prices through online applications.
To this day, Japanese cars seem to remain the top choice for several reasons. For example, the availability of spare parts.
Furthermore, the greater number of dealerships spread across various regions is a key consideration for consumers.
Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) are in demand thanks to their spacious cabins, which are suitable for family mobility.
“In my opinion, MPVs remain the trend (in the used car market). Such as the (Toyota) Kijang Innova Reborn, Honda CR-V, and Toyota Avanza,” said Andi, a used car showroom owner at MGK Kemayoran, to KatadataOTO on Tuesday (23/12).
Besides MPVs, LCGCs (Low-Cost Green Cars) are also frequently sought after because they are offered at competitive prices. Additionally, their compact size and fuel efficiency are suitable for urban use.
These three products are popular with consumers thanks to their stable resale value. Plus, the availability of spare parts is no longer an issue.
“As for MPVs, they are in demand by consumers from the middle to upper segments,” Andi revealed.
As previously reported, internal data from OLX reveals that a range of Toyota cars are still being hunted by consumers.
The Toyota Kijang Innova is one of them, followed by the Avanza and Fortuner. Meanwhile, from Honda, there are the HR-V and Brio.
There is a chance that used car transactions will increase ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, or the Nataru holiday season.
Considering that last December, OLX saw a six percent increase in potential buyers compared to the previous month.
OLX data also mentions that besides MPVs, Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are a type of vehicle sought by the public due to their tough performance.
From a price perspective, the most sought-after used cars are offered in the Rp 100 million to Rp 200 million range.
