After its debut in Japan, Suzuki even had to halt orders for the 5-door Jimny in Japan.
KatadataOTO – The Jimny is one of Suzuki's most popular SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) models. Not only in Indonesia, but it turns out that consumers in Japan are also very enthusiastic about the arrival of the 5-door Jimny.
In fact, because it has become so popular, Suzuki was forced to close orders from consumers. The total number of orders is claimed to have reached 50,000 in just four days.
Roughly calculated, the waiting list for the 5-door Suzuki Jimny in Japan could reach 3.5 years. The demand is much higher than the production capacity of the manufacturer with the S logo.
It should be noted that the 5-door Jimny is currently assembled exclusively at the Maruti Suzuki assembly facility located in Gurugram, Haryana.
Suzuki has issued an apology for the decision to temporarily close orders for the 5-door Jimny.
“We will provide an update on when orders will reopen while monitoring the future production situation. We sincerely apologize and thank you for your understanding,” read the statement from Suzuki, quoted from Carscoops, Wednesday (5/2).
There are several things that make the 5-door Jimny attractive to consumers, including in Japan. Its wheelbase is longer than the previous 3-door configuration model.
Although slightly longer than the previous type, the 5-door Jimny still manages to look compact and tough like an off-road SUV because its length is less than 4 meters.
This model is quite popular in the country. Because consumers were deemed enthusiastic, at GJAW 2024, PT SIS (Suzuki Indomobil Sales) launched the Jimny White Rhino Edition, limited to 100 units with a price of Rp 495.1 million on the road in Jakarta.
According to an official statement from PT SIS, the Jimny recorded satisfactory results throughout 2024. Compared to the previous 3-door version, they recorded a retail sales increase of up to 169 percent.
The high consumer interest has also created a waiting list phenomenon here, similar to Japan. As of March 2024, the number of orders was 1,800 units.
However, PT SIS only allocates a quota of about 100 units of the five-door Jimny per month. Although they haven't reached the point of stopping orders, they admit the waiting list can be up to one year and five months.
“Of course, this will not satisfy everyone, but we ensure a first-in, first-served basis from each dealer,” said Donny Ismi Saputra, Deputy Managing Director 4W of PT SIS, some time ago.
