KatadataOTO – BYD Indonesia is reportedly ready to launch a new product for consumers in the country. One of them is an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) with PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology, the BYD M9.

The model has been registered on the DJKI (Directorate General of Intellectual Property) website.

Part of BYD's M series, the M9 is positioned in a class above the affordable electric MPV, the BYD M6, which was previously launched in the country.

The BYD M9 is also touted as the first hybrid car from this Chinese manufacturer. It is also likely to be offered at a lower price than its premium version, the Denza D9.

There is no official information about the specifications yet, but it is believed not to be much different from its local version, the BYD Xia. Only minor changes are made for the export model.

Reporting from Carnewschina, Sunday (22/05), information from MIIT or the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals the dimensions (L x W x H) of the BYD M9 are 5,145 mm x 1,970 mm x 1,805 mm.

Meanwhile, the MPV's wheelbase is 3,045 mm. The M9 is said to be able to accommodate seven passengers.

In terms of exterior, the car's side profile looks identical to the Denza D9. The M9's more 'subtle' grille or fascia design, using a horizontal line pattern, is its main feature.

Moving into the cabin, the BYD M9's interior is minimalist, like most other Chinese cars. There are not many buttons, there is a large floating screen in the center, and a combination of white and brown on the seats, dashboard, and steering wheel.

Regarding the powertrain, the M9 is known to use BYD's fifth-generation DM-i Hybrid technology, a.k.a. PHEV, equipped with a 1,500 cc turbocharged engine.

The power output reaches 115 kW (154 hp), while its electric motor contributes 200 kW or about 268.2 hp.

The battery used is LFP in two options, 20.39 kWh or 36.6 kWh. Each offers a pure electric range of 100 km and 180 km, respectively.

The combination of a full fuel tank and a 100 percent charged battery is said to allow the BYD M9 to travel 945 km.

The BYD M9 could be an attractive option for MPV enthusiasts in Indonesia who are not yet ready to switch completely to electric.
