KatadataOTO – The automotive industry in Indonesia is currently experiencing a weakening of purchasing power due to various factors, causing sales figures to stagnate throughout 2025.

The situation is the opposite in the Philippines. Mitsubishi, as one of the manufacturers in the country, revealed that sales in the Philippines have now surpassed Indonesia.

Throughout the 2024 fiscal year, or the period from April 2024 to March 2025, Mitsubishi recorded retail sales in the Philippines of 91 thousand units, while Indonesia was at 71 thousand units.

“In the 2024 fiscal year, we faced changing sales conditions due to the lack of improvement in automotive demand in Thailand and Indonesia,” Mitsubishi wrote in its financial report, quoted on Tuesday (20/05).

According to Mitsubishi Indonesia, the automotive sector in the Philippines is indeed growing. However, this is said not to disrupt Indonesia's position as one of the most important markets for the three-diamond brand.

“Indonesia's global position remains unchanged. Last year's sales were not very good, but in a few years, we want to overtake the Philippines,” said Atsushi Kurita, President Director of PT MMKSI (Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia) in Jakarta, recently.

According to Kurita, the factory owned by MMKI (Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia) is still a crucial plant for MMC (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation).

In the future, he has a target for Indonesia to become Mitsubishi's largest market in Southeast Asia. The projection is to contribute at least 10 percent of national car sales.

“Part of our strategy is to increase market share, from 8.3 percent to 10 percent,” said Kurita.

He emphasized that the journey is still long. Because Mitsubishi's market share in the Philippines is at 20 percent.

However, there is still a lot of room for Indonesia to grow. To reinvigorate the market, Mitsubishi released new models, namely the Mitsubishi Xpander and the Xpander Cross facelift.

For more details, here is the sales report for Mitsubishi in ASEAN and Oceania for the 2024 fiscal year, processed from the Mitsubishi Motors report.
