Mitsubishi also has a hybrid Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) product, the Xpander, but it has not yet been marketed in Indonesia.
KatadataOTO – Mitsubishi is still waiting for the right time to introduce a line of passenger vehicles with hybrid technology. Although a number of other rivals from Japan have already entered the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) segment.
At the GJAW 2025 event, Toyota finally launched the Veloz Hybrid, becoming an attractive new option for consumers. The price is quite competitive, below the Innova Zenix, starting from Rp 299 million.
On the other hand, Mitsubishi already has the Xpander Hybrid, which debuted earlier in Thailand in early February 2025.
Thailand was chosen due to supportive government policies, plus the growing population and trend of hybrid cars there.
In Indonesia, the trend is also starting to look positive and sales are quite high. Therefore, the presence of the Xpander Hybrid could be an interesting development.
Mitsubishi also responded to the presence of the Toyota Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia at the GJAW 2025 event.
“As you know, in Thailand we have the Xpander Hybrid. We also (already) have a hybrid car product,” said Yoshio Igarashi, Director of Sales & Marketing Division at PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) on the sidelines of GJAW 2025, recently.
He did not deny that there are still plans to bring the Xpander Hybrid to the Indonesian market. However, his party is still waiting for the right time.
It is possible that the current economic conditions and weak consumer purchasing power are the reasons Mitsubishi is waiting for the right moment to bring in the Xpander Hybrid.
Towards the end of the year, Mitsubishi preferred to launch a 7-seater Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), the Destinator. That model has successfully collected tens of thousands of Vehicle Order Letters or SPK since its launch.
“For Indonesia, we are still studying what needs to be done to introduce a hybrid product,” Igarashi affirmed.
For your information, in Thailand, both the Xpander and Xpander Cross have been equipped with hybrid technology combined with a 1,600 cc engine.
Thanks to this technological addition, drivers are presented with an EV Drive Mode, where the car can be powered by an electric motor, offering the sensation of driving an electric car.
The Mitsubishi Xpander Hybrid is sold for 912,000 baht or around Rp 405 million. Meanwhile, the Xpander Cross is priced at 946,000 baht, equivalent to Rp 420.1 million in rupiah currency.
This price tag would be higher in Indonesia. This is because the incentives for hybrid cars in the country are smaller.
