Mitsubishi Destinator Secures 12,000 Bookings, Two-Month Waiting Period

The 850,000-unit car sales target is considered too optimistic; Mitsubishi provides its prediction.
KatadataOTO – The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has set a target for new car sales at 850 thousand throughout 2025. However, Mitsubishi, as one of the manufacturers, believes that figure will not be achieved.
Looking at the current economic conditions and cumulative sales figures throughout 2025, as of October, retail sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) of new cars in Indonesia were around 660 thousand units.
This means there is still a gap of more than 200 thousand units to reach Gaikindo's new car sales target.
“Sales of 850 thousand units is a bit too optimistic,” said Yoshio Igarashi, Director of Sales & Marketing Division at PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), on the sidelines of the GJAW 2025 exhibition, Monday (24/11).
He himself revealed that Mitsubishi believes that the economic conditions and new car sales in Indonesia can still recover and increase towards the end of the year.
However, the target of 850 thousand is still far too high and difficult to achieve in the remaining two months.
“We can estimate that we can achieve new car sales (nationally) in the range of 800 thousand units,” Igarashi affirmed.
Speaking of Mitsubishi itself, Igarashi stated that their market share target was successfully achieved through the sales of the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Xpander.
“But the volume (of Mitsubishi Xpander sales) may still be slightly below our expectations,” said Igarashi.
Nevertheless, according to him, the presence of the Mitsubishi Destinator has helped boost their overall sales.
The number of Vehicle Order Forms (SPK) already collected for the Mitsubishi Destinator is also considered high at nearly 13,000 units. Only 6,300 units have been delivered to consumers as of November 2025.
For that reason, Mitsubishi will try to accelerate the production and delivery of the Mitsubishi Destinator so that consumers do not have to wait too long.
But if you buy now, he estimates the waiting time or indent period is about one to two months.
“Out of the 13,000-something units, by December we want to deliver a total of about 9,000 units to consumers,” said Igarashi.
