The Denza D9 received an additional PHEV variant in its home country, while its BEV version was updated.
KatadataOTO – The luxury Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Denza D9 has received a new variant that debuted at the Chengdu Motor Show 2025.
To note, the Chengdu Motor Show 2025 is an automotive exhibition in China that presents various motorized vehicle products and accessories, running from August 20 to September 9.
Reporting from CnEVPost, Sunday (31/08), BYD brought at least four new variants, including Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).
One new PHEV type has been added and will be offered at a price of 309,800 yuan. This figure is approximately Rp 713.1 million when converted to the rupiah exchange rate.
Meanwhile, the BEV variant of the Denza D9 is priced at 319,800 yuan (Rp 736.2 million), a decrease compared to its debut price in China of 379,800 yuan or Rp 874.3 million.
The PHEV variant that debuted at the Chengdu Motor Show 2025 is said to be equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM-i technology.
The Denza D9 PHEV uses a 40 kWh battery and is equipped with a 1,500 cc engine. Its pure electric range is claimed to reach 190-200 kilometers.
With a full battery and fuel tank, its comprehensive range is 1,100 kilometers.
There is no complete information yet regarding the technical specifications of the latest Denza D9. However, looking at the images published by Denza, it seems this car gets a new two-tone color scheme.
In addition, it is possible that all variants will undergo changes to the powertrain and features.
This reflects Chery's decision to drastically lower the price of the E5 in Indonesia. The Chinese brand claimed to have 'optimized' the powertrain, reducing the vehicle's torque.
However, there is certainly a possibility that other factors are at play, leading to the price reduction of the new Denza D9 variant in China.
It should be noted that the Denza D9 in Indonesia is currently only sold in one electric-powered variant.
Thanks to a price far below one of its strongest rivals, the Toyota Alphard HEV, the Denza D9 has recorded positive sales.
Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), retail Denza sales for the D9, or from dealer to consumer, reached 5,519 units.
In March and June, its retail sales figures each successfully surpassed 1,000 units.
With this positive achievement, the competitively priced Denza D9 PHEV has a chance of being introduced in the country.
PHEVs have also become increasingly popular following the arrival of Chinese brands. This is because they are considered an efficient alternative to electric cars, without having to always rely on the availability of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU).
