KatadataOTO – Toyota is reportedly planning to introduce a new product for consumers, this time a pickup double cabin.

However, the plan is for their new pickup to fill the class below the Toyota Hilux. Therefore, its dimensions will be smaller, and it will be offered at a competitive price.

Toyota has confirmed they are considering this, especially for the United States market where demand is quite high.

“We are looking in that direction,” said Mark Templin, Chief Operating Officer of Toyota USA in an interview, quoted from The Japan Times, Thursday (22/05).

With various economic and policy uncertainties in the US, many US consumers are said to be looking for affordable and compact double cabin pickup trucks.

Unfortunately, they are still reluctant to provide further details regarding the development plans for this entry-level double cabin pickup.

“We can get good results in that segment. So we are trying to do it,” said Cooper Ericksen, Senior Vice President of Planning and Strategy for Toyota Motor North America.

If it is released, this Toyota pickup will be smaller than the Hilux currently marketed in Indonesia.

Graphic designer Theottle, in his latest post, created a rendering of the Toyota pickup's exterior, using the latest RAV4 hybrid as a base.

The front view is aggressive with a hammerhead-like headlight design and a grille dominated by black.

The sporty feel is enhanced by the all-black fenders, wheels, and roof rails, appearing elegant without many additional accessories or body kits.

Although at a glance it looks identical to the Hilux, Theottle made the pickup bed smaller. However, it is not yet known for sure when Toyota will realize this entry-level pickup.

In Indonesia, PT TAM (Toyota Astra Motor) has introduced the Hilux double cabin and the new Hilux Rangga model.

Unlike the previous Hilux, the Hilux Rangga targets fleet customers who use the vehicle for business needs.

Its rear bed is very large and easily personalized. Toyota is also partnering with hundreds of coachbuilding companies to help customers modify the bed.

The Hilux Rangga can be used as a pickup or a 7-seater SUV. There are several types offered with prices starting from Rp 190.3 million to Rp 306.9 million OTR (On The Road) Jakarta.
