The prices of the Jaecoo J8 and J8 PHEV were announced earlier than the J7 and J5 EV, and there are several reasons behind it.
KatadataOTO – The Jaecoo J8 has been officially introduced to consumers, priced in the Rp 600 million range. Simultaneously, the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) version of the J8 made its global debut in Indonesia.
Previously, Jaecoo had also introduced two other models, the J7 and J5 EV. The J7 even has the potential to be sold at a competitive price.
It turns out there are several reasons behind this decision. It seems Jaecoo is more confident in the set of features embedded in the J8.
When compared, the difference in features is quite significant. The Jaecoo J7 uses a conventional AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system, while the J8 is equipped with ARDIS (All-Road Drive Intelligent System).
“You can see for yourself, they have quite a unique technology. There's the CDC suspension,” said Max Zhou, Country Director of Jaecoo Indonesia in Jakarta, on Monday (21/07).
The CDC Magnetic Suspension helps adjust the vehicle's suspension according to the road contour and driving mode.
This system is combined with ARDIS technology, which distributes torque to each wheel individually, helping the car tackle various road conditions, including off-road.
Furthermore, the Jaecoo J8 PHEV is claimed to have capable performance. The 0-100 km/h acceleration is claimed to be achievable in just 5.4 seconds.
“I think that's why we chose the J8 as the first car to be introduced in the market. We want to send a signal that we are premium, but premium is not just about design, but also unique technology,” Max affirmed.
Speaking about the fate of the Jaecoo J7, Max revealed that the model's price will be announced soon at the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2025 exhibition.
For your information, the Jaecoo J8 is equipped with a 2,000 cc turbo engine. Meanwhile, its hybrid variant has a 1,500 cc capacity with three electric motors and a 34.3 kWh battery.
This configuration is said to allow the Jaecoo J8 PHEV to produce a maximum power of 530 hp and a peak torque of 650 Nm.
The price of the Jaecoo J8 PHEV during the pre-booking period is in the Rp 850 million range. Customers can already place orders at the nearest dealerships.
Jaecoo promises that units will be delivered to customers starting in September 2025.
