KatadataOTO – Although the national automotive market is experiencing a decline, Chery's sales in Indonesia are actually improving. Based on Gaikindo data, retail sales from the Chinese manufacturer are seen to be continuously growing from month to month.
It peaked in May 2025 where sales reached 2,067 units. The total units sold have reached 7,662 units, capturing a market share of 2.3 percent.
“In general, the automotive market is indeed down, but Chery's contribution continues to grow from around 1,500 units to over 2,000 units. So this shows that the public's reception of our products is quite positive,” said Budi Darmawan, Sales Director of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (19/06).
Although he did not explain in detail, he revealed that Chery J6 is still the backbone of sales.
“Currently, the biggest contribution is from J6, Tiggo Cross, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 8 CSH,” he then added.
Nevertheless, he admitted that they will continue to carry out various developments for the domestic market. So it is hoped that vehicle sales will continue to experience growth compared to previous months.
In addition, he will also continue to improve the production process to be able to deliver to customers more quickly.
It should be noted that the Chery J6 is one of the best-selling electric cars in Indonesia. In May 2025, its wholesales reached 580 units.
The car is equipped with an attractive design and its dimensions are quite compact, namely a length of 4,406 mm, a width of 1,910 mm, and a height of 1,715 mm.
Although it seems compact, the Chery J6 is claimed to remain comfortable to use. This is because various features have been embedded, such as 12 Infinity speakers, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 9-inch digital instrument panel, seats with a massage feature, and a Panoramic Sunroof.
Furthermore, the Chery J6 is equipped with a 69.77 kWh capacity battery. Thanks to this, consumers can drive as far as 426 km in the RWD type and 418 km in the AWD variant.
To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, the car only needs 6.5 seconds for the AWD type. Meanwhile, the RWD variant requires 10.5 seconds to reach the same speed.
