Sales Decline in Indonesia Draws Attention from Toyota Japan

Still popular among local consumers, the production of the Toyota Kijang Innova Reborn will be maintained alongside the Zenix.
KatadataOTO – Toyota All New Kijang Innova, also known as the Innova Reborn, is still one of the favorite models for consumers in Indonesia. Its sales figures are also said to be high, often even surpassing its newest generation.
Referring to Gaikindo data, the wholesales figures (distribution from factory to dealer) for the Innova Reborn reached 3,047 units as of September 2025.
Meanwhile, the Kijang Innova Zenix, both the gasoline engine and hybrid versions, were lower at 2,736 units.
Seeing the high consumer interest, Toyota Indonesia revealed that the production of the Innova Reborn will continue alongside the Kijang Innova Zenix.
“Until consumers get tired of it (the Innova Reborn being sold),” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), when met in Karawang some time ago.
The continuation of the Innova Reborn's production and sales, according to Bob, is one of the implementations of the multi-pathway approach in the country.
This means that the products offered are not exclusive to electric or hybrid cars but also include gasoline and diesel engines.
“We call it a multi-pathway, there are technologies that are still in incubation, being developed, and those that are already advanced. It will move according to technological developments,” Bob affirmed.
Speaking of Kijang Innova sales for the January-September 2025 period, the wholesales figure for the Innova Reborn reached 21,920 units.
Meanwhile, its newest generation, the Kijang Innova Zenix, was only about 1,400 units higher at 23,382 units.
The wholesales percentage for the Innova Zenix hybrid variant recorded a positive result of 17,852 units, while the gasoline engine type accounted for 5,530 units.
The positive consumer response to the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) line seems to be the basis for Toyota's plan to introduce the Veloz Hybrid in 2026.
The Toyota Veloz Hybrid in the country will fill the segment below the Innova Zenix Hybrid with a more competitive price.
Just like with the Innova, the presence of the Veloz Hybrid will not immediately eliminate its gasoline engine variant.
Thus, the public will still have many choices before eventually switching to the electrification line, such as hybrid cars or Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).
