KatadataOTO – Citroen showcased a unique model at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week GJAW 2024, namely the Basalt. The car is referred to as an SUV coupe, which is arguably still rare in the country.

At that time, the Citroen Basalt was introduced without a price. The plan is for the Basalt to be officially launched this year.

At the exhibition, Citroen did not deny that the Basalt attracted the attention of many visitors, especially young people.

However, it seems the French manufacturer is still hesitant to bring the Basalt to consumers in the country.

“Technically, we are still studying the Basalt, perhaps when exactly we will bring it is still being calculated,” said Tan Kim Piauw, Chief Executive Officer of PT Indomobil National Distributor, when met in Jakarta some time ago.

According to him, the Basalt remains one of Citroen's lineups that will be brought to the Indonesian public.

Not launching it directly this year, according to him, is a way to anticipate the rapid development of Citroen products.

“For example, we can see the C3 Aircross, the C3 MT launched last year. But this year, a (new version) has already appeared with significant specification improvements,” said Tan Kim Piauw.

So, it is possible that if the Basalt undergoes a refresh or development, it will be the latest version that will be launched in Indonesia.

However, the Citroen Basalt will not be a volume maker or a model that will become the backbone of sales.

“Frankly, not many people play in this segment because of its coupe-like form. So we are still studying it,” he asserted.

For your information, the Citroen Basalt is already sold in India with a starting price of 799,000 rupees. In rupiah, that figure is equivalent to around Rp 151.9 million.

The Citroen Basalt uses a 1,200 cc three-cylinder gasoline engine, claimed to produce 108 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 205 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm.

The 5-seater passenger configuration car has dimensions of 4,352 mm x 1,593 mm x 1,765 mm, while its wheelbase is 2,651 mm.

The SUV coupe is also equipped with various driving safety systems, including six airbags as standard and 40 safety features.
