Toyota targets cumulative exports of 3 million units this year, with 2.8 million units already realized as of 2025.
KatadataOTO – Toyota continues to lead the number of exports of four-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia throughout 2024 amidst various economic challenges. Out of a total of 472,194 units, 276 thousand of them were contributed by Toyota.
This figure is claimed to have decreased compared to the same period in 2023, which was 290 thousand. Toyota stated that demand had temporarily decreased due to several conditions in the global market.
However, this achievement is still positive with Toyota's electrification line exports increasing from year to year. In 2023, the figure was 8,700 units, then it rose by almost 111 percent to 18,700 units in 2024.
“So it's not in vain that the government provides additional incentives for hybrid cars domestically. Because it turns out it can also boost exports,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT TMMIN (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia) in Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/03).
He emphasized that Toyota will continue to export to various countries, including those in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Then, Toyota has a target to reach a cumulative export figure of three million units by 2025.
Previously, it was known that the total exports of the Toyota Brand to nearly 100 countries since 1987 had successfully surpassed 2,520,754 units as of October 2023.
Meanwhile, Bob confirmed that Toyota's cumulative export figure has reached 2.8 million units. This means another 200 thousand units need to be pursued to reach that target by the end of this year.
“From January to February, (Toyota's) exports were 39 thousand, approximately 60 percent of Indonesia's automotive exports. God willing, this year we will reach three million exports,” said Bob.
Speaking of models that will contribute significantly, the company hopes that the export performance of Toyota's electrification line, namely the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid and Yaris Cross Hybrid can continue to increase and surpass last year's achievements.
Moreover, Toyota itself assesses that demand in the global market is now leaning towards HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) because they are considered practical, and the infrastructure is already established.
“Last year it was around 18 thousand, this year the target is more than 20 thousand, an increase. We are targeting that by 2030, 50 percent of (exports) from Indonesia will be all hybrid,” he asserted.
