Toyota Fortuner Hybrid is now offered in India alongside the Legender, with prices starting from around IDR 800 million.
KatadataOTO – After being present in the South African market, the Toyota Fortuner Hybrid made its Asian debut in India. The latest model was introduced by TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor).
Alongside the Fortuner Hybrid, the Legender Hybrid is also available, which has a sportier look.
According to Toyota, the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) market in India is growing steadily and consumers are looking for vehicles with capable features and a new design.
The Fortuner and Legender were then introduced as an answer to consumer demand in India. Both are available in a mild hybrid option called the Neo Drive 48V variant.
“This underscores our commitment to providing the best vehicles that suit consumer lifestyles while continuing to implement Toyota's multi-pathway approach,” said Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Used Car Business at TKM in his statement, quoted on Thursday (05/06).
There are no significant changes to the exterior, it still uses the second-generation Fortuner's look. But this time, there is an addition of a 48-volt lithium-ion battery.
The Fortuner Hybrid is equipped with a 2,800 cc turbo diesel engine. The use of hybrid technology is said to help reduce vehicle noise and make acceleration feel smoother.
The Smart Idle Start-Stop feature embedded in the Fortuner Hybrid can help improve fuel efficiency, especially when the car is stationary.
"The introduction of the new Neo Drive 48V in both models (Fortuner and Legender) marks an important milestone in our journey,” said Varinder.
The Fortuner Hybrid is sold starting from Rs 44.72 lakh or equivalent to IDR 847 million when converted to rupiah. Meanwhile, the Legender is Rs 50.09 lakh, around IDR 952.1 million.
In Indonesia, PT TAM (Toyota Astra Motor) has not confirmed the arrival of the Fortuner Mild Hybrid. However, Toyota is still actively introducing HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) for consumers.
At IIMS (Indonesia International Motor Show) 2025, Toyota brought two hybrid cars at once, namely the new Camry Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid.
The next hybrid model is believed to be an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) in a class below the Innova Zenix, namely the Veloz Hybrid.
A car suspected to be the Veloz Hybrid has also been registered in the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 8 of 2024 concerning the Basis for Imposing Motor Vehicle Tax and Heavy Equipment Tax 2024.
The model is coded W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT and W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT TSS. W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT, with a taxable value of IDR 264 million to IDR 284 million respectively.
