As one of the affordable segments, Toyota hopes the government can help maintain LCGC prices.
KatadataOTO – LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) prices in Indonesia have increased due to the 12 percent VAT. Previously, this type of car was considered affordable with a price tag under IDR 200 million.
The OTR (On The Road) price increase for one LCGC brand has even surpassed IDR 200 million. Meanwhile, for Toyota, it is nearly IDR 200 million, at IDR 197.1 million as of January 2025.
In response, PT TAM (Toyota Astra Motor) revealed that a number of special packages or offers have been prepared to make it easier for consumers to purchase new vehicles, especially LCGCs.
“The LCGC segment needs more attention, considering the program's original goal was to provide affordable vehicle options for the public,” said Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT TAM, when contacted by KatadataOTO on Monday (13/1).
According to him, so far, Toyota distributors and manufacturers have made maximum efforts not to increase the prices of the vehicles offered.
Nevertheless, Anton believes that government intervention is still needed to maintain public purchasing power in the LCGC segment.
“Hopefully, the government can also intervene further in segments that are volume makers for the Indonesian automotive industry, such as LCGCs, if the impact of the tax component increase proves to be significant in the future,” Anton emphasized.
Overall, he revealed that the VAT increase to 12 percent has a broad impact on many models, not just LCGCs.
For your information, all of Toyota's LCGC products will see a price increase as of January 2025. For example, the lowest Calya trim, previously sold for IDR 167.3 million, is now IDR 169.6 million.
Meanwhile, its highest trim went from IDR 190 million to IDR 192.6 million. The Agya G CVT is now IDR 194.4 million; its original price was IDR 194.4 million.
The following is the complete price list for Toyota LCGCs as of January 2025, after the 12 percent VAT increase.
