Toyota's hydrogen fueling station in Karawang has a pressure of 700 bar, the first in Indonesia.
KatadataOTO – PT TMMIN (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia) inaugurated a hydrogen refueling station or Hydrogen Refueling Station in Karawang, on Tuesday (11/2).
This refueling station can later be used for hydrogen cars and other industrial vehicles and equipment such as forklifts and trucks that use hydrogen fuel.
“This development represents Toyota Indonesia's commitment to supporting the government in the energy transition,” said Nandi Juliyanto, President Director of PT TMMIN in Karawang, on Tuesday.
He revealed that for now, the refueling station will be used to support the operations of the Mirai, gradually waiting for Toyota to produce its own hydrogen in the future.
It should be noted that previous hydrogen refueling stations in Indonesia had a pressure of 350 bar. This time, Toyota's facility has a pressure of 700 bar, a first in the country.
However, when it comes to the vehicle itself, Toyota emphasized that it is still in the study phase before fully introducing one of its products, the Mirai.
Supporting this, the Ministry of ESDM (Energy and Mineral Resources) will also begin to deploy hydrogen refueling stations at several points, including the Jakarta area.
The goal is to serve as a means of education and introduction to the public about environmentally friendly vehicle alternatives beyond BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles).
“The priority target is those six points for education first. Why must there be one in Senayan, the one owned by PLN is for education and to introduce that hydrogen is safe and can be used in various vehicles,” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of NREEC of the Ministry of ESDM on the same occasion.
For your information, hydrogen is just one of several environmentally friendly energy alternatives. Toyota has gradually introduced several of its product lines as a form of its multi-pathway commitment.
Thus, the focus is not only on electric cars but also on other vehicles that can produce lower emissions and are more fuel-efficient.
A real example is the flexy engine, a Toyota car engine configuration that has been optimized to run on alternative fuels like bioethanol.
