KatadataOTO – Mentoring for the 13th Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) finalists continues. After previously visiting Balikpapan, Surabaya, Manado, Makassar, Mojokerto, and Merauke, it is now the turn of Painan City, South Pesisir Regency, West Sumatra to be visited.
In that area, SMAN 2 Painan successfully became a finalist and received direct mentoring from Toyota Indonesia. This stage is carried out to refine the vision and mission of the environmental project proposal being competed.
The students submitted a proposal titled Easy Catch. They are working to use drones as a means of delivering food orders to replace fossil-fueled motor vehicles.
This breakthrough is believed to drive the economy. In addition, traffic safety and order will also remain under control, and the environment will be preserved.
Thanks to the use of drones, the speed and timeliness of order delivery are higher, thus increasing customer satisfaction. With increased customer satisfaction, orders will also increase, allowing the food and beverage business to grow further.
Moreover, electric drones are considered environmentally friendly because the electricity source used comes from Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA), which have abundant potential. Besides driving the community's economy, its utilization can also serve as an educational tool.
It was previously reported that TEY is continuously held by Toyota Indonesia to produce pioneers and environmental activists from the younger generation. They are expected to be able to realize innovative ideas to overcome environmental problems in their surroundings.
“Toyota Indonesia appreciates the creativity and innovation of the 13th TEY finalist schools in their environmental proposals, which are in line with decarbonization in the energy transition era. Because this step requires synergy from all parties, including students,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN).
A similar sentiment was expressed by Henry Tanoto, Vice President Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), who emphasized that TEY can increase the awareness of the younger generation while also honing their sensitivity and concern for the future of the community's economy.
“We hope the TEY program can also be a means of self-actualization for the younger generation of high school-level students to collaborate in realizing ideas or concepts to overcome environmental problems,” he affirmed.
