KatadataOTO – Toyota is one of the car manufacturers in Indonesia ready to follow the regulations for implementing a 10 percent ethanol blend fuel, or E10, as proposed by the government.

And not just E10. Toyota has developed the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix, which is compatible with running on an 85 percent ethanol blend gasoline, also known as E85.

Although not yet mass-produced, the development of the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix E85 continues in order to keep up with the progress of the national automotive industry.

At a glance, they look the same, but Toyota mentioned there is one main difference between the Kijang Innova Zenix E85 and its standard version.

“Some adjustments were made to the tank and fuel delivery lines to make them compatible with using fuel with a high ethanol content,” said Philardi Ogi, Head of Public Relations at PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), to KatadataOTO some time ago.

It should be noted that ethanol has a tendency to absorb water. Therefore, gasoline with an ethanol blend has the potential to cause rust in the fuel tank.

Additionally, the rubber or plastic components in the fuel lines were also adjusted so they do not easily become brittle or leak due to ethanol exposure.

However, in terms of the engine and exterior appearance, there are no significant differences.

Regarding the further effects of E85 on performance and efficiency, Toyota confirmed that studies are still ongoing.

“This is what we are trying to observe through the long-term use of bioethanol fuel in various Toyota vehicles, in collaboration with Pertamina and SERA,” said Ogi.

He revealed that the study will continue until significant results are found regarding factors such as the efficiency and durability of the Kijang Innova Zenix E85.

For your information, Toyota Indonesia claims that almost all of its vehicle lines are already compatible with using gasoline blended with a certain percentage of ethanol.

However, owners of older Toyota vehicles produced before 2010 should pay attention.

Because they may not be able to run on ethanol fuel. Additionally, the fuel tank material has not been adapted and could cause new problems if forced to use E10.
