As part of its commitment to develop alternative energy in motorsport, Toyota unveiled the LH2 Racing Concept.
KatadataOTO – Toyota is one of the Japanese manufacturers still focused on alternatives to EVs in this era of electrification.
Most recently, they launched the high-performance GR (Gazoo Racing) series car, the GR LH2 Racing Concept. The model uses liquid hydrogen as fuel.
The LH2 Racing Concept debuted at the Circuit de la Sarthe during the Le Mans 24 Hours event, which took place from June 11-15, 2025.
In terms of design, the Toyota GR LH2 Racing Concept has an eccentric look like hypercars in general.
The shape of the hood and glass at a glance appears identical to the Bugatti Bolide hypercar, a car specifically for track racing. The difference is that Bugatti's product does not rely on hydrogen as a power source.
The presence of the LH2 Racing Concept prototype is proof of Toyota's commitment to developing the latest technology that can adapt to the challenging conditions in the motorsport sector.
Toyota also has a mission for its hydrogen vehicle line to be more involved in rally events. In 2022, the GR Yaris H2 was included in a trial at the Ypres Rally, organized by the FIA World Rally Championship.
Meanwhile, the following year in 2023, a hydrogen-powered Corolla completed a trial at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Just in 2025, the latest version of the GR LH2 Racing prototype development was exhibited to Le Mans visitors.
“The GR LH2 Racing Concept will support Toyota in developing hydrogen technology and its infrastructure. Then, build connections to expand the possibility of hydrogen (car) involvement in motorsport,” Toyota wrote in an official statement, quoted on Saturday (14/05).
There are no complete specifications yet for Toyota's Bugatti Bolide look-alike. However, it was explained that the heart of the GR LH2 Racing is a combination of a hydrogen engine and hybrid technology.
This car has large dimensions. Its length reaches five meters, precisely 5,100 mm with a width of 2,050 mm.
For your information, Toyota is also following its global commitment to hydrogen development in Indonesia.
In February 2025, they inaugurated the first hydrogen refueling station in Indonesia, which has a pressure of up to 700 bar and is located in Karawang.
“This development represents Toyota Indonesia's commitment to supporting the government in the energy transition,” said Nandi Juliyanto, President Director of PT TMMIN (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia) in Karawang some time ago.
Although it has not yet marketed hydrogen-powered products domestically, Toyota has brought in the Mirai as a case study.
