KatadataOTO – Toyota plans to build a new car factory in one of the cities in Japan. The production facility will start operating in early 2030.

Unfortunately, they have not yet decided what model will be produced at the facility or its capacity. However, it is not impossible that the manufacturer will make electrified vehicles its mainstay.

The decision to build a new domestic factory is becoming more interesting as it comes amid a decline in Japanese vehicle sales. The last Toyota factory in its home country began operations in 2012.

So far, Toyota has had a policy of maintaining an annual production capacity in its home country of 3 million vehicles. Half of the cars it manufactures are intended for export markets, including Indonesia.

It should be noted that in the first half of 2025, Toyota and Lexus successfully produced 4,918,024 vehicles. This figure is up 5.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of this total, 1,639,637 units were produced in Japan. This record shows a growth of 8.7 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

Meanwhile, the production of Toyota and Lexus vehicles outside of Japan was 3,278,387 units. That figure represents a growth of 4.4 percent compared to 2024.

This large production volume is due to significant sales in several key markets. Starting from North America, China, and Japan.

Specifically in the North American region, there has been an increase in demand for hybrid cars, which benefits Toyota. The Camry and Sienna are claimed to have many fans in the region.

Similarly, demand in China is also claimed to have experienced significant growth. Toyota has started to enter the New Energy Vehicle segment and has received a positive response from the public there.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, although sales are under pressure, production is still considered quite large thanks to the high number of vehicle exports.

Meanwhile, the market in Japan is also claimed to be improving after being hit by various issues and recalls. The presence of the Crown Estate is said to be the main supporter for Toyota in the first half of 2025.
