KatadataOTO – Toyota recalls Alphard, Nav1, Camry, Corolla, Vios, and Yaris models produced from 2001 to 2016 due to a potential issue with the airbag inflator at authorized workshops. This was announced directly on their official website.

The Japanese manufacturer revealed that they had actually started a campaign for several of their models since 2015. However, the program has apparently not been completed to this day.

“Toyota Indonesia is committed to always providing attention and responsibility for all products marketed, including older production years,” said Henry Tanoto, Vice President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) in a press release (12/08).

He revealed that there is a potential danger if the component is left without repair. Therefore, they will inspect and replace the airbag inflator to meet the required specifications.

It should be noted that the use of airbags in the front passenger area has a potential danger because its explosion is accompanied by metal fragments in some countries. This condition is believed to worsen the victim's condition when an undesirable event occurs.

“But not all vehicles within the above production range are involved, only certain VINs,” he later added.

During the repair, authorized Toyota workshops will inspect and/or replace the airbag inflator component. The work itself is carried out by certified technicians, ensuring the quality meets company standards.

The repair time itself varies depending on the model. However, the repair process will generally take about 1 to 3.5 hours.

The entire process from inspection to the final check is confirmed to be completely free of charge.

Customers participating in the recall program are expected to book a service appointment in advance. This allows the workshop to prepare the service bay and technicians, so customers won't have to wait too long in line as they are already scheduled.

“We urge customers to have the airbag inflators of several Toyota cars checked at the nearest authorized workshop. This step is a form of our responsibility for product quality and to provide peace of mind to all customers,” concluded Jap Ernando Demily, Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM).
